What kind of food does Josie Bones serve?

We serve grazing style dishes that are best shared around the table. Our food is seasonal, using local produce wherever possible. We respect animals and use cuts from the entire beast. We also cook with beer where appropriate.

Are there vegetable dishes?

We usually have four to six vegetable dishes at any one time.

We hear you only do pork and beer, is that the case?

Not at all, we serve many different meats and vegetables and have a range of beverages other than beer.

What time does the kitchen close?

Between 9:30 and 10:30 depending on the night.

Can I just come in for a beer?

Absolutely, we have many customers coming in just to sample our amazing range.

How many beers do you have?

Currently we have eight rotating taps featuring local and imported craft beer and over 260 bottled beers, including our cellar range.

Does Josie Bones do food and beer matching?

Our staff can suggest the perfect beer to match your dish or we can tailor a beer and food evening for you.

Do you serve drinks other than beer?

We have a concise range of red, white and sparkling wines, as well as ciders and spirits, to suit our seasonal menu.

Where does the name come from?

Josie Bones is the maiden name of Chris’s best friend’s mother. He heard it years ago and thought it would be a cool name for a venue. Fast forward fifteen years and here we are!

Chris Badenoch, Julia Jenkins and some pals.

What is the chef’s name?

Rob Taylor.

Where can customers park?

Street parking is available on Smith Street and streets off Smith Street, however we recommend you take a tram (the 86 goes right past our door) or catch a taxi.

Do you take bookings?

We take bookings for any number of people. Bookings of 8 or more people are required to go onto a set menu. Please call or email us for more details.

What is the wait time for walk-ins?

It depends on the evening and how busy we are. We recommend you arrive earlier on weekends to avoid a wait, however we have a small drinking-only area to wait in, or you can stop by and give us your name and phone number and we can call you as soon as a table becomes available.

Dress code?

Casual.

How many seats does the restaurant have?

65 until our 2nd floor is open.

What about large parties?

Currently we can only cater for groups of 8-12 however this will change in the near future when our function room is completed.

What credit cards do you accept?

Visa, Mastercard and American Express.
